I saw an asian woman (I'm guessing Chinese or Malaysian, but it's not really relevant) standing outside Mornington Crescent station this morning, gesticulating wildly to her interlocutor. Having seen this sort of thing go on before, I assumed that she must be speaking in sign language. A little closer, and my suspicions were confirmed, as the sounds coming from her mouth were inconsistent with any kind of language, and as well as that the other person was signing too.
The bit that made my eyes pop was when I got a bit closer I saw that she had no hands. I think they'd both been amputated.
In spite of that, the guy she was “talking” to seemed to understand her fairly readily. Still, must be pretty weird though.
And I thought Scottish people were hard to understand…
