As hinted previously in this blog, in February there are awards ceremonies to be found other than those centred around the US Film Industry. In this particular case, I’m talking about the Chortle Awards – awarded by UK Comedy portal Chortle.co.uk & sponsored by Fremantle Media – and as hoped by the staff here at Humpy Towers, Australian piano-playing late-blooming-wunderkind (?) Tim Minchin scooped 2 awards; one for Best Sketch, Character or Variety Act, and another for Best Full Show.
Other awards dished out to People Wot I Reckon Are Cool were:
- Award for innovation – Robin Ince for Nine Lessons And Carols For Godless People
- Best theatre show – Russell Howard: Dingledodies
- Outstanding contribution to comedy – The Just A Minute team
Rhod Gilbert scooped 2 gongs as well, but I’m not gonna write about him as I don’t know a thing about his act.
So that’s rather good.
As I’ve probably mentioned before (or in fact, feel like I’ve done nothing other than mentioning constantly this month) Minchin’s in blistering form, so if you’ve not yet seen his current show “Ready For This”, get cranking.
